Russia urges US and Israel to halt aggression against Iran

New York — Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, has demanded that the United States and Israel immediately cease their aggressive actions against Iran.

Speaking during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Nebenzia stated that aggression against Iran has triggered escalation in the region and risks spreading far beyond its borders.

According to reports from the UN headquarters in New York, Nebenzia characterised US and Israeli actions as “unprovoked armed aggression” that violates the UN Charter and international law.

Nebenzia assessed that such actions risk causing serious humanitarian and economic catastrophe in the region.

Escalation surrounding Iran also threatens nuclear and radiological security, he said, and he emphasised his hope that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi would condemn the attacks.

“We emphasise the need to immediately continue political and diplomatic resolution, seeking solutions based on international law, mutual respect, and balance of interests. Russia is prepared to provide all necessary assistance,” he stated.

Nebenzia also assured that Russia is taking all steps to protect its citizens in Iran.

“Our country is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Russian citizens in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

On Saturday, 28 February, the US and Israel launched a series of attacks against targets in Iran, including Tehran, which caused not only damage but also civilian casualties.

Iran responded by launching missile attacks on Israeli territory and US military bases in the Middle East region.
