Russia Submits UN Security Council Resolution, Urges Immediate Ceasefire in Middle East
Russia has formally submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for an immediate cessation of all military operations in the Middle East. This diplomatic move comes amid mounting global concerns about the widening war escalation following large-scale US-Israel air strikes against Iran, which triggered retaliatory strikes by Tehran.
Based on documents obtained by the TASS news agency on Monday (9 March), the draft resolution expresses “deep concern over the current military escalation in and around the Middle East” and conveys profound sympathy for civilian lives lost during the ongoing hostilities.
In the document, Russia urges all conflicting parties to immediately cease military activities and refrain from actions that could worsen the situation. The UN Security Council is also encouraged to direct all parties back to the negotiating table without further delay.
“Russia emphasises the importance of making full use of political and diplomatic means to ensure the security of all countries in the Middle East region,” the draft text states.
As of now, other UN Security Council members, including the United States, have not issued official statements regarding their willingness to support the resolution initiated by Moscow.
