Russia says common sense has finally prevailed in US-Iran conflict
Moscow (ANTARA) - Russia’s Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday that common sense has prevailed in the pause in tensions between the United States (US) and Iran.
In a statement, Medvedev said the conflict has essentially been suspended, with both sides claiming victory.
“So who won? First and foremost, common sense, which was severely damaged by the White House’s statements about destroying Iranian civilisation in one day,” Medvedev said.
He said the US willingness to discuss the proposed 10-point plan is a success for Iran, although questions remain about whether Washington will agree to the terms.
Medvedev warned that Washington needs to maintain the fragile ceasefire with Tehran, as further steps would only worsen the situation.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova separately commented on the ceasefire. According to her, the aggressive and unprovoked attack approach has finally been subdued.
Zakharova described the current situation in the Middle East as proof that any strategy based on escalation and the use of violence is entirely ineffective and unsustainable.
She said Russia has from the outset called for an immediate halt to the aggression, emphasising the futility of the military approach and the need for a political and diplomatic resolution through negotiations based on international law and mutual respect for the interests of all parties.
Previously, Iran and the US agreed to a two-week ceasefire less than two hours before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump. The two will hold negotiations in Pakistan starting on Friday (10/4).
