Russia Predicts US-Iran Agreement Will End in Deadlock

The process of reaching a final agreement between Iran and the United States will be extremely difficult, stated Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, on Saturday (4/7). Medvedev stated that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States has served as the basis for the continuation of negotiations between the two nations.

“Now, documents exist, and the deadlines for reaching several final agreements have passed. To be honest, I think this process will be very difficult. It will be very hard to reach an agreement on several issues, including, for example, the allocation of funds for the reconstruction of Iran,” Medvedev told reporters.

Previously on Friday (3/7), Medvedev visited Iran to attend a farewell ceremony for the former Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei. According to reports from Anadolu, in addition to Medvedev, who attended as a special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the final tribute ceremony for the former Supreme Leader was also attended by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Iraqi President Nizar Amidi, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistani Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, and Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir.

From Arab nations, attendees included the Chairman of the Shura Council of Qatar Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Saudi Arabian Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji, the Chairman of the State Council of Oman Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, and the Vice President of Yemen Aidarus al-Zoubaidi.

Delegations from Central Asia were also present, including the National Leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the Speaker of the Parliament of Uzbekistan Nuriddin Ismoilov, the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev, the Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Marlyn Mamataliyev, and the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev.

Other high-ranking officials paying their respects included the President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, the Chairman of the Lower House of Belarus Igor Sergeyenly, the Speaker of the Egyptian Senate Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan Abdul Ghani Baradar, alongside a Chinese delegation led by He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
