Russia: Pentagon uses Starlink to interfere in other countries' affairs

Moscow (ANTARA) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov has accused the Pentagon of using Starlink satellite communication systems to interfere in the internal affairs of other nations. Alimov highlighted the issue of using low Earth orbit satellite internet systems, which he described as illegal, at the International Security Forum in Moscow on Wednesday. ‘It is no secret that this technology, particularly Starlink, which provides internet access without going through national regulators, is used to interfere in a country’s internal affairs, including organising protests,’ he said. The space company SpaceX, which manages Starlink, does not hide the fact that it is a Pentagon contractor, the diplomat noted. ‘We are now seeing how this company is expanding globally under the guise of satellite communication convenience, effectively gaining the ability to influence populations in other countries. This is undoubtedly a worrying trend,’ Alimov said. Therefore, he added, Russia is working to ensure transparent regulation of such systems and that operators comply with national laws in the countries where they operate.
