Russia Launches 41 Missiles and 125 Drones at Kyiv, Ukraine's Patriot Systems at Risk of Ammunition Depletion

Russia launched one of its largest ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine since the full-scale war began on Saturday, firing 41 missiles and 125 drones, with the majority of the missiles directed at the capital, Kyiv. According to data from the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack involved 25 Iskander-M ballistic missiles or missiles launched from S-400 air defence systems, 10 Zircon hypersonic missiles, three Oniks cruise missiles, and three Kh-59 or Kh-69 guided missiles. Ukraine claimed to have intercepted or suppressed 126 of the 166 total weapons launched, comprising 18 missiles and 108 drones, though 23 missiles and 10 drones struck 20 locations, with debris falling on 18 other sites. The assault killed at least one person and injured 16 others in Kyiv, with fires and damage reported across five districts. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that most of the Russian missiles were aimed at the capital. The Ukrainian Air Force noted that the successful interception of 17 ballistic and hypersonic missiles demonstrated the continued effectiveness of its air defence systems, provided there is an adequate supply of interceptor missiles. The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed the strike targeted Ukrainian defence industry production and logistics facilities, including sites related to Flamingo drone production, Neptune missiles, unmanned systems, and electronic warfare equipment, though these claims could not be independently verified.
