Russia emphasises friendship mission during Navy ship visit to Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet ship detachment, Rear Admiral Evgeny Myasoedov, stated that the visit of the Russian naval vessels aims to strengthen the friendship between Indonesia and Russia.
“Our agenda includes not only demonstrating the capabilities of our ships to the Indonesian people, but also professional exchanges with naval personnel, cultural activities, and introductions to various tourist attractions and traditions,” Myasoedov said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Friday.
The Russian Pacific Fleet detachment, consisting of the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the tanker Pechenga, and the destroyer Admiral Tributs, docked at Tanjung Priok, Indonesia, from 30 September to 4 October, and organised an “Open Ship Day” for the public on 2 October.
Regarding “Open Ship Day”, Myasoedov admitted he did not expect such a large number of visitors. He noted that the day was very busy, and the crew had prepared carefully to welcome Indonesian citizens.
Furthermore, the Rear Admiral quoted Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who stated that the Pacific Ocean does not separate, but rather unites the two countries.
According to him, the visit of the Russian Navy ship detachment is in line with the spirit of building bridges, strengthening relations, and deepening cooperation.
Echoing Rear Admiral Evgeny Myasoedov, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, stated on the same occasion that Russia develops its navy to ensure its national defence and to promote friendly cooperation with partner nations.
“We are developing the Russian Navy not to oppose any country, nor to engage in competition or an arms race in this Pacific region, but to guarantee the defence of our country—the Russian Federation—as well as to encourage friendly cooperation with our friends,” he emphasised.
Tolchenov mentioned that joint maritime exercises could serve as an effort to increase mutual understanding, prevent maritime incidents, and demonstrate that Russia is prepared to ensure its security through its own strength.
The Russian Ambassador added that the fourth edition of the Komodo exercises was held in Bali in 2025, and the fifth edition is expected to take place in Indonesia next year. He noted that if the Russian Navy is invited, the Russian Pacific Fleet ships would arrive on a mission of friendship.
The Russian Pacific Fleet ship detachment began its journey from Vladivostok, Russia, to Jakarta, Indonesia, a voyage lasting approximately 20 days. Following their visit to Indonesia, they will continue their journey to George Town, Malaysia.
