Russia declares ceasefire in Kherson for humanitarian operation
Moscow (ANTARA) – Russia’s Armed Forces have declared a ceasefire in Kherson to prepare for a humanitarian operation in the Alyoshki area, according to a statement by Russia’s Ministry of Defence.
“To prepare for a humanitarian operation near the settlement of Alyoshki, in the Kherson region, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have ceased fire in the Kherson sector and introduced a ceasefire regime, effective from 04:00 Moscow time on 27 October 2026,” the statement said.
Earlier, Russia’s Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defence Minister Valery Gerasimov announced that a ceasefire would be introduced and Russian forces would stop firing from 04:00 Moscow time on Tuesday. The move was intended to ensure the safety of residents and the delivery of essential supplies.
On Monday (26 October), the Ministry of Defence reported that units from the Dnepr group of forces were conducting daily engineering reconnaissance and clearing explosives and booby traps from the main routes to Alyoshki.
According to the ministry, for more than two years Ukraine has shelled roads and routes leading to Alyoshki every day, while extensively using drones to destroy any vehicles.
The ministry also claimed that Ukrainian forces had used drones to lay mines remotely along routes to Alyoshki, disrupting civilian evacuations and obstructing deliveries of food, medicine and other essential goods.
During the same period, engineering units from the Dnepr group of forces neutralised more than 300 explosive devices and mines, according to the Ministry of Defence.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia hoped Ukraine would comply with the arrangements reached for the humanitarian operation.
Peskov also said the ceasefire mechanism in Alyoshki could serve as a model for securing similar arrangements in other sectors of the special military operation zone.
