Russia Confirms It Is On Iran's Side, Signals It Could Provide Military Aid If Requested
London — Russia has stated its geopolitical stance on the war, led by Zionist Israel and the United States, against the Islamic Republic of Iran, by declaring it backs Iran. The Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Andrei Kelin, stressed that Moscow’s position is not neutral and that it supports Iran, which he described as a victim of injustice in the face of the Zionist-US invasion.
‘We (Russia) are not neutral. No. We are not neutral. We support Iran. And of course, as I have always said, we view negatively what is being done to Iran,’ Kelin said in an interview with Sky News, cited by Al Jazeera English, on Sunday (8 March 2026).
Kelin also expressed Russia’s sympathy for Gulf Arab states directly affected by the Zionist-US military aggression against Iran. He said there are many factors that place Russia on Iran’s side and in support of Iran. Besides Iran being a friend country of Russia, described by Kelin as a good neighbour, Tehran’s government has also long been a victim of American injustice.
‘You know, that we all sympathise with Iran. They are our neighbours. And we have always had very good relations. And we see that the military actions taken against Iran are entirely unjust. Therefore, Russia supports Iran,’ he said.
However, Kelin added that during this period of war against Zionist-US aggression, Iran has not once formally requested that Russia provide military assistance. Iran has told Russia that they can still endure and fight with their own capabilities.
‘But as we have already announced, Iran has asked for nothing from us, asked for nothing, or any assistance,’ Kelin said.
