Russia Condemns, Says the US Does Not Attack Nuclear-Armed States!

The Russian government has strongly condemned the United States, together with its ally Israel, for launching a military strike against Iran. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the war could instead trigger the emergence of forces in Iran that support obtaining a nuclear bomb.

Lavrov said in a press conference on Tuesday (3/3 local time) that the logical consequence of the actions of the US and Israel is that ‘power will emerge in Iran… that will support doing exactly what the United States wants to be avoided - acquiring a nuclear bomb’.

‘Because the US does not attack those who possess nuclear bombs,’ Lavrov said, quoted by Al-Jazeera, on Wednesday (4/3/2026).

Lavrov also said that Arab states may now join in a race to acquire nuclear weapons, given recent days’ experiences and the ‘nuclear proliferation problem will begin to get out of control’.

Israel is widely regarded as the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East, whose status has neither been confirmed nor denied.

Lavrov said the aim of starting war to prevent nuclear proliferation could have the opposite effect.

Lavrov spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, and said that Russia is ready to help find a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

When the US and Israel launched their first strikes on Iran last Saturday, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the two countries of ‘aggressive, planned actions without provocation against a sovereign and independent UN member state’.

Both countries have hidden their true intent to topple the Tehran regime ‘under the pretext’ of negotiations to normalise relations with Iran, the ministry said.

‘The US and Israel are rapidly leading the region toward humanitarian, economic disaster, and even the potential for radiological catastrophe,’ the ministry warned.

‘Responsibility for the negative consequences of this man-made crisis, including cascading unpredictable reactions and rising violence, lies entirely with them,’ the statement added.
