The Russian government has strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Lebanese territory amid the ceasefire agreed between the United States (US) and Iran. Russia urges that the attacks on Lebanon be stopped and included as part of the US-Iran ceasefire agreement.

Cited from AFP, Thursday (9/4/2026), this was conveyed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi today. In a press release, the Russian government stated it is “very confident that these agreements have a regional dimension and, in particular, apply to Lebanon”.

In a separate statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. She said that “such aggressive actions threaten to derail the ongoing negotiation process”.

As known, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asserted that Israel will continue to strike the Iran-backed Hezbollah group “wherever necessary”. He conveyed this on Thursday (9/4), a day after Israel’s massive strikes hit Lebanon.

“We continue to strike Hezbollah with force, precision, and determination,” Netanyahu wrote on his personal X account, cited from AFP news agency, Thursday (9/4/2026).

“Our message is clear: whoever acts against Israeli civilians – we will strike them. We will continue to strike Hezbollah wherever necessary, until we fully restore security for residents in northern Israel,” he added.

Previously, on Wednesday (8/4), Israel carried out strikes in the neighbouring country of Lebanon, including in central Beirut, Lebanon’s densely populated capital. This is Israel’s largest attack since the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group joined Iran’s war against the US-Israel in early March.

The Israeli military (IDF) described the barrage on Lebanon as the largest wave of airstrikes on the country. The IDF claimed to have struck more than 100 Hezbollah command centres and military locations within 10 minutes. The southern outskirts of Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley in the east became targets.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health stated that at least 182 people were killed and 890 injured.

This number adds to the list of deaths since Israel launched attacks on Lebanon six weeks ago. Previously, 1,700 people had died, including 130 children, in the country, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
