Russia Claims UK Directly Involved in US Attack on Iran
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON – Russia’s Ambassador to the UK, Andrey Kelin, on Sunday (5/4/2026), stated that the United Kingdom was directly involved in the US-Israel conflict versus Iran. Specifically, US aircraft were permitted to operate from British bases while attacking Iran.
In early March, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that London had approved a US request to use its military bases for attacking Iranian missile depots.
“They like to claim that the United Kingdom is supposedly not interfering, only offering minimal ‘defensive’ support to allies while pushing for diplomatic solutions. Who are they fooling?” Kelin said.
“Regardless of the naive British public… Allowing America to launch attacks on Iran from their bases and deploying military aircraft to the region is tantamount to direct involvement, no matter how Keir Starmer tries to explain it differently. I believe Iran’s leadership has taken note of this,” he added.
According to Starmer, the UK has tried to rally as many countries as possible against Iran. On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East. The US and Israel initially claimed their “preemptive” attacks were necessary to counter threats perceived from Iran’s nuclear programme. However, they then asserted that they sought to effect a change of power in Iran.
