Moscow - Ukraine has launched a drone attack against an oil refinery in the Tyumen region of Siberia for the first time since the conflict began, Governor Alexander Moor said on Saturday. He stated that air defence systems successfully repelled the attack on the Tyumen oil refinery, one of Russia’s largest oil processing facilities. “The unmanned aerial vehicle attack on the Tyumen oil refinery was successfully thwarted. Emergency service personnel are handling the fallen debris at the site,” Moor said via Telegram. “According to initial information, the facility suffered no damage and workers have been evacuated,” he added. Moor said he is continuing to monitor the situation directly. The Tyumen region in western Siberia is nearly 2,000 kilometres from the front line of the war in Ukraine. As of now, Ukrainian authorities have not yet responded to reports of the attack. Previously, Ukraine stated that its long-range drone strikes deliberately target Russian energy infrastructure, including oil refineries and fuel storage facilities, because the sector is one of the main pillars of the Russian economy.
