Russia Claims Destruction of Ukrainian Military Infrastructure, Kyiv Strikes Russian Strategic Facilities
Russia claims to have successfully attacked a number of Ukrainian military infrastructure sites and shot down hundreds of drones in operations over the past 24 hours. On the other side, Ukraine states it has launched strikes against several strategic facilities on Russian territory.
The Russian Defence Ministry stated on Sunday (15/6/2026) that Russian forces used fighter jets, drones, missiles, and artillery to strike Ukrainian long-range drone storage depots, as well as energy, transport, and port facilities linked to Kyiv’s military operations.
In its statement, Russia also claimed to have attacked 150 locations used as temporary deployment points for Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries. Additionally, Moscow said it successfully shot down 483 Ukrainian drones within a single day.
Meanwhile, several Russian regions, including areas around Moscow, were reported to have been targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes. The attacks caused civilian casualties and triggered the deployment of emergency response teams.
“Residents and emergency services are working at the sites where drone debris fell,” said Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin in an official statement.
On the other side, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces successfully struck a number of important targets in Russia. In a post on social media platform X, Zelensky mentioned that one of the targets was an oil facility in the Yaroslavl region, which is considered to have a strategic role in Russia’s energy reserves.
Additionally, Ukraine also claimed to have struck the Azot chemical plant in the Tula region, described as one of the main facilities for explosives production in Russia.
The reciprocal attacks between the two countries demonstrate a conflict that continues without signs of abating. Both Moscow and Kyiv continue to escalate their military operations amid diplomatic efforts that have yet to produce a meaningful breakthrough to end the war, which has now lasted more than four years.
The Drone War Increasingly Determines the Course of the Conflict
The Russia-Ukraine war is increasingly showing how drone technology has transformed the face of modern warfare. If at the beginning of the conflict battles were largely determined by tanks, artillery, and ground troops, now both sides increasingly rely on drones to strike strategic targets far behind the front lines. Attacks on logistics depots, energy facilities, military bases, and defence industrial areas have become easier to carry out without having to deploy large numbers of troops.
In recent months, both Russia and Ukraine have continued to increase their drone production capacity and usage. Russia utilises drones to support attacks on Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure, while Kyiv uses them to reach Russian territory that was previously relatively safe from direct strikes. The ability of drones to fly hundreds or even thousands of kilometres means geographical boundaries are no longer the main barrier in military operations.
