Russia Attacks Turkish Grain Cargo Ship, Five Killed
Russia has reportedly attacked a Turkish-owned cargo ship carrying grain, killing five people. According to AFP on Monday (20/7/2026), the Ukrainian navy said on Sunday that a Russian missile strike on the Turkish-owned cargo ship had killed five of its crew. Five others were also reported missing. “Russia launched three cruise missiles at the Golden Leo, which was sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau,” the Ukrainian navy said in a statement. Russia attacked the cargo ship as it was leaving the combat zone, even though the vessel was only carrying grain. “The ship was attacked while leaving the combat zone with a cargo of grain,” the statement continued. The Ukrainian navy accused Russia of carrying out the attack deliberately, as the cargo ship posed no military threat whatsoever. “This is another deliberate attack by Russia against an unarmed civilian vessel flying a foreign flag and posing absolutely no military threat,” the Ukrainian navy statement said.
