Russia and Egypt Strengthen Counter-Terrorism Cooperation
Russia and Egypt have agreed to expand cooperation in combating international terrorism and other security challenges, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday. “The Russian Federation and the Arab Republic of Egypt reached an agreement to further expand interaction in the field of combating international terrorism and other security challenges, both in a bilateral format and at major international forums,” the ministry said in a statement following a meeting of the Russia-Egypt working group on counter-terrorism. Moscow and Cairo also exchanged views on global and regional terrorist threats, particularly in Afghanistan, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, and shared national experiences in counter-terrorism efforts. The statement added that the meeting also addressed current issues and international cooperation projects in combating terrorism and extremism, including the use of the latest technologies. Challenges related to terrorist financing were also a key focus. Moscow hosted the fifth meeting of the Russia-Egypt working group on counter-terrorism, which was attended by representatives from relevant agencies of both countries and co-chaired by the foreign ministries of Russia and Egypt.
