Rusli gets '3 days' to sort out haze

PEKANBARU: Riau students staged a protest on Monday and said
they would give the governor a three-day deadline to start
dealing with a haze problem the province.

The students, of the Riau Students Alliance, did not say what
action they would take if the governor ignored their call. They
criticized the provincial administration for doing little to stop
forest fires and slash-and-burn land clearing responsible for the
smog, which has choked the area since last month.

The students did not meet Governor HM Rusli Zainal but
delivered their demand to the head of environmental impact
management agency Khairul Zainal. -- JP
