Rupiah Weakens to Rp 17,967 per US Dollar, JCI Potentially Volatile
The rupiah exchange rate weakened by 15 points, or 0.08 percent, to Rp 17,967 per US dollar on Thursday morning (25/6/2026), compared to the previous close of Rp 17,952 per US dollar. Doo Financial Futures currency analyst Lukman Leong stated that the rupiah’s depreciation was due to increasing expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike. “The rupiah is expected to weaken against the US dollar amid growing expectations of a rate hike by the Fed, which has pushed the US dollar index to a new 13-month high,” Lukman said in Jakarta on Thursday. The market estimates a roughly 70 percent probability of a rate hike in September and the possibility of another increase in December. Investors are also anticipating US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data, which is expected to rise from 0.3 percent to 0.4 percent. “There is no domestic economic data. Sentiment from within the country is mixed. Although foreign funds are entering Government Securities (SBN), overall foreign funds are actually leaving the equity market,” Lukman said. According to him, the rupiah’s weakening in recent days was triggered by a surge in the US dollar index, despite Bank Indonesia’s efforts to maintain the rupiah’s stability. Based on these factors, the rupiah is expected to move in the range of Rp 17,900 to Rp 18,000 per US dollar.
