Rupiah Weakens to Rp 17,500, Puan Maharani Warns Against Indonesia's Decline
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has called on the government and relevant policymakers to anticipate the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate, which has now reached Rp 17,503 per US dollar.
According to her, this rupiah depreciation must continue to be anticipated, even until 2027. The government, she said, must also monitor the global situation impacting this weakening.
“This situation must not allow its effects to ultimately cause Indonesia to become mired,” said Puan after leading the plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
During this session period, she stated that the House of Representatives will enter discussions on the Macroeconomic Framework and Main Points of Fiscal Policy (KEM-PPKF) for the 2027 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
“That also includes anticipating the upcoming APBN and fiscal matters,” she said.
