The rupiah exchange rate closed at Rp 17,002 per US dollar on trading Monday, 30 March 2026. That position weakened by 22 points compared to the previous day’s level of Rp 16,979 per US dollar.

Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures, Ibrahim Assuaibi, said the market remains cautious towards the potential escalation of the Iran war. “The market, which currently anticipates the next move from The Federal Reserve (The Fed) to be an interest rate hike, given the current high energy price scenario,” he said in a written statement on Monday, 30 March 2026.

From the internal side, Ibrahim assessed that exchange rate developments are influenced by sentiment towards the government’s plan to carry out budget efficiency. According to him, the efficiency steps need to be supported by a combination of other policies to be effective in maintaining the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

Ibrahim explained that the current fiscal pressure is structural, stemming from energy subsidies, rising debt interest costs, and priority spending needs. “Realistic efficiency space only comes from non-priority spending, given the increasingly tight spending structure, especially for energy subsidies, employee spending, and debt interest,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed down 0.08% at 7,091 on trading Monday, 30 March 2026. A total of 272 stocks rose, 403 fell, and 149 were stagnant. The transaction volume reached 25.12 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 14.94 trillion. The transaction frequency was recorded at 1.67 million times.
