Jakarta – The Indonesian rupiah is predicted to continue moving fluctuatively but closed weaker during today’s trading session.

Based on Bank Indonesia’s Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor), the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar stood at Rp 16,758 per dollar on Thursday, 26 February 2026. The rupiah strengthened by 55 points from the previous rate of Rp 16,813 on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

Meanwhile, spot market trading on Friday, 27 February 2026 until 09.01 Western Indonesia Time saw the rupiah transacted at Rp 16,780 per US dollar. This position weakened by 21 points or 0.13 per cent from the previous level of Rp 16,759 per US dollar.

Economist and money market observer Ibrahim Assuaibi stated that market players viewed positively the US Supreme Court’s decision to cancel portions of Trump’s tariff policies, which was rapidly responded to by the Indonesian Government.

President Prabowo Subianto requested his team to examine all potential risks following the court decision, particularly regarding the implementation of the Indonesia-US trade agreement.

The Government ensured that despite changes in Trump’s tariff policy, the Indonesia-US trade agreement would continue according to the established mechanism. This is because bilateral agreements have their own mechanism.

However, the Government assessed that the 10 per cent tariff policy applicable temporarily over 150 days is relatively better than the previous scenario. Additionally, there will be differentiation in treatment between countries that have signed agreements and those that have not.

Going forward, diplomacy and negotiation will continue to be conducted adaptively whilst placing national interests as the top priority. The Government ensures that the implementation of trade agreements continues to provide concrete benefits for economic stability and national competitiveness amid global dynamics, including changes in Trump’s tariff policy direction.

“The rupiah currency is fluctuating but closed weaker in the range of Rp 16,750 to Rp 16,780,” he said.

For information, market players are closely observing diplomatic developments as US and Iranian officials prepare to meet in Geneva to discuss Tehran’s nuclear programme. US Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet with Iranian officials in Geneva on Thursday afternoon, as Washington seeks to reach an agreement regarding Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.
