JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk or BCA has affirmed that the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate does not significantly impact the company’s credit portfolio.

BCA Director John Kosasih stated that the bank’s credit exposure in foreign currencies remains small, accounting for only around 4.9 percent of the total credit portfolio.

With that proportion, he continued, the recent rupiah depreciation, moving in the range of Rp17,300 per US dollar, does not exert meaningful pressure on credit quality.

“So it’s very small at the moment, and the current condition is still well maintained. So if there is rupiah weakening, of course the impact is not significant,” he said during a press conference on Thursday (24/4/2026).

Nevertheless, he emphasised that business actors in general still hope for exchange rate stability to maintain business certainty.

“Of course, if businesspeople are asked what would be best? It would be best if it could be stable; that’s what businesspeople in the field hope for,” said John.

On the other hand, John revealed that BCA is observing the potential impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on several customer business sectors, particularly the plastics industry, which is starting to feel pressure from rising raw material prices.

However, he assured that overall credit risk remains under control.

The company continues to conduct monitoring and intensive coordination with customers to ensure optimal mitigation measures.

“So far, if we observe, the risk has remained well maintained. Customers are still running their businesses well, and we will continue to monitor their conditions,” he stated.

It is noted that Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded that the rupiah, at Rp17,140 per US dollar on 21 April 2026, had weakened by 0.87 percent point-to-point compared to the end of March 2026.

Even in Thursday’s trading (23/4/2026), the rupiah briefly broke through to Rp17,300 per US dollar.

Although it eventually closed at Rp17,286, weakening by 0.61 percent or 105 points from the previous day’s close.
