Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - After strengthening at the end of last week, the rupiah opened trading on Monday (5/10/2026) with a significant weakness against the US dollar.

According to Refinitiv data, the rupiah opened at the level of Rp17,950/US, weakeningby0.46.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the strength of the greenback against six major world currencies, was observed at 102.030 at 09:00 WIB, gaining 0.10%.

Today’s rupiah movement will be influenced by several domestic and international sentiments. Domestically, the market is awaiting the release of September’s foreign exchange reserves and the September consumer confidence index this week. Both pieces of data will be closely monitored to assess Indonesia’s external resilience and domestic demand conditions.

Externally, the market is still processing the US labour market report released on Friday night. US job growth slowed sharply in September 2026, with non-farm payrolls adding only 29,000 jobs, far below the market expectation of 90,000 jobs.

At the same time, the US unemployment rate rose to 4.2% from the previous 4.1%. This weaker labour data has bolstered market expectations that the Federal Reserve will be more cautious in determining its next interest rate move.

Despite the weakening US labour data, the US dollar actually moved higher in this morning’s trading. The strengthening of the DXY has contributed to pressure on emerging market currencies, including the rupiah.

Furthermore, market participants are still closely monitoring the developments in US-Iran tensions and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil price movements are also a point of concern as they have the potential to influence global inflation and interest rate expectations.

Throughout this week, investors are also awaiting US services sector activity data and the minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting to seek further clues regarding the direction of the US central bank’s monetary policy.
