Rupiah Weakens Again on 2 July 2026, Approaching Rp18,000 per US Dollar

The Indonesian rupiah opened weaker against the United States dollar on Thursday morning (2/7), recording a slight decline amidst global foreign exchange market dynamics. Based on market data monitored on Thursday morning, the rupiah weakened by 26 points, or 0.14 percent, to trade at Rp17,978 per US dollar, compared to the previous closing position of Rp17,952 per US dollar. The rupiah’s depreciation at the opening reflects ongoing pressure on the domestic currency. Although the correction was relatively limited at under 1 percent, market participants continue to scrutinise various global economic sentiments, particularly US monetary policy and the latest economic data releases influencing the dollar index. As of the time of writing, exchange rate fluctuations persist in the spot market. Investors are tending to adopt a wait-and-see approach, anticipating further policy direction from monetary authorities both domestically and internationally to maintain exchange rate stability amidst global financial market uncertainty.
