Rupiah Under Pressure, Jaecoo Car Prices Remain Stable
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar has begun to pose challenges for the domestic automotive industry, including Chinese vehicle brands that still rely on imported units or components.
Spot market data on Friday (22 May 2026) showed the rupiah weakened by 50 points, or 0.28%, closing at Rp 17,717 per US dollar.
Despite unstable exchange rates, Jaecoo has confirmed no price adjustments for its vehicles in Indonesia, including its flagship model, the Jaecoo J5 EV.
Jim Ma, Business Unit Director of Jaecoo Indonesia, stated that currency fluctuations are a challenge faced by many automotive industry players.
He added that despite the rupiah’s ongoing volatility against the US dollar, Jaecoo is maintaining product prices to remain competitive for Indonesian consumers.
“Despite the current uncertainty in currency exchange rates, we will offer appropriate pricing to our customers so they can continue choosing the Jaecoo J5,” said Jim Ma.
He also confirmed that Jaecoo has not revised prices despite ongoing currency pressures.
“If you look at the currency differences, you can see that we have not made any adjustments so far,” he added.
The Jaecoo J5 starts at Rp 309 million, the J7 at around Rp 499 million, while the top variant of the J8 is priced at approximately Rp 719 million.
The rupiah’s depreciation has prompted several automotive brands to signal potential price adjustments, particularly for Completely Built Up (CBU) models. However, Jaecoo has chosen to maintain current prices to avoid impacting consumer purchasing power.
