Rupiah Under Pressure in Spot Market, Hits Rp 16,911 per US Dollar
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market depreciated at the close of trading on Wednesday (25/3/2026). The Garuda currency weakened by 14 points or 0.08 percent to the level of Rp 16,911 per US dollar. The rupiah’s movement in afternoon trading was in line with the majority of currencies in the Asian region, which tended to be under pressure against the US dollar. The Thai baht was recorded as the currency with the deepest weakening in Asia, after correcting by up to 0.45 percent. Similar pressure was experienced by the South Korean won and the Philippine peso, which fell by 0.27 percent each. Next, the Malaysian ringgit also corrected by 0.20 percent. Weakening also occurred in the Singapore dollar, which dropped by 0.16 percent, followed by the Chinese yuan which depreciated by 0.10 percent. Amid the dominance of such weakening, the Hong Kong dollar instead recorded the largest strengthening in the Asian region after rising 0.11 percent against the US dollar. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee also strengthened, albeit limited, by 0.01 percent against the greenback in afternoon trading.
