Rupiah Under Pressure as US Dollar Breaks Through Rp18,100
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The rupiah came under increasing pressure against the US dollar in Monday morning trading (26 October 2026).
Refinitiv data showed that at 10.04 am Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the rupiah had depreciated by 0.36% to Rp18,105 per US dollar, compared with Friday’s (23 October 2026) close of Rp18,040.
That was the rupiah’s weakest level since early June 2026, or in nearly five months.
The currency had already weakened at the opening, falling 0.06% to Rp18,050 per US dollar. In about an hour, it lost a further 55 points from its opening level.
The move reversed a slight gain on Friday, when the rupiah closed 0.03% higher at Rp18,040 per US dollar.
Pressure on the rupiah came as the US dollar itself weakened in global markets. At 9 am WIB, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback against six major currencies, was down 0.17% at 101.636.
