Rupiah Today 9 June 2026: Strengthens to Rp18,134

The exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar opened stronger in Tuesday morning trading (9/6). The rupiah successfully capitalised on the momentum of easing global geopolitical tensions to reduce the dominance of the greenback.

Based on market data collected on Tuesday morning, the rupiah moved up by 54 points or 0.29 per cent to the position of Rp18,134 per US dollar. Previously, at the close of Monday’s trading, the rupiah stood at the level of Rp18,188 per US dollar.

This strengthening of the rupiah is in line with improving risk sentiment in global markets. Market expectations regarding the de-escalation of conflict in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel, have provided breathing space for emerging market currencies.

In addition to geopolitical factors, investors are also closely monitoring domestic economic data releases and US monetary policy, which continue to shadow the movement of risky assets. The drop in global crude oil prices occurring this morning has also provided positive sentiment for the stability of the rupiah exchange rate, considering Indonesia’s position as an oil importer.

Analysts predict that the rupiah still has the potential to move fluctuantly throughout the day. Market participants’ focus will be directed towards the release of US inflation data scheduled for this week, which will serve as a compass for the future direction of the Fed’s interest rate policy.

On the other hand, the strengthening of the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) at the opening of this morning’s trading also provides a positive signal of capital inflow supporting the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate in the spot market.

Investors are advised to remain cautious of foreign exchange market volatility, given that issues of economic blockades and Iranian nuclear negotiations remain variables of uncertainty at the global level.
