The ceasefire between the United States and Iran has led to a strengthening of the rupiah’s exchange rate. At the close of trading on Wednesday (8/4), the rupiah rose 93 points or 0.54 percent to Rp17,012 per US dollar from the previous close at Rp17,105 per US dollar.

US President Donald Trump is reported to have approved the ceasefire on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.

“The US has stated that it has agreed to a temporary halt of attacks against Iran for two weeks on the condition that Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz,” said Head of Economics at Permata Bank Josua Pardede in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4).

The US has accepted a 10-point proposal to end the war with Iran.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) stated that the proposal will serve as a framework for negotiations to resolve the agreement, including halting the conflict.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) said the proposal includes guarantees of no aggression against Iran, continuation of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, recognition of Tehran’s right to uranium enrichment, and the lifting of all major and secondary US sanctions.

The agreement reportedly also includes stopping United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors resolutions against Iran, payment of compensation, withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, and the US being asked to cease hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

The vital global distribution route, the Strait of Hormuz, will also be guaranteed during the negotiation period, preceded by coordination with Iran’s armed forces.

The temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, mediated by Pakistan, has become a positive catalyst for global financial markets, including Indonesia.

The Indonesian rupiah exchange rate strengthened significantly in Wednesday morning trading, in line with the easing of external pressures due to global geopolitical developments.

The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar recorded positive performance at the opening of Wednesday morning trading, 8 April 2026.

The government is faced with a policy dilemma and there is nothing that is truly comfortable.
