Economic and money market observer Ibrahim Assuaibi stated that the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported Indonesia’s economic growth at 5.61 percent year-on-year (yoy) in the first quarter of 2026.
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the fourth quarter of 2025 at current market prices was Rp 6,187.2 trillion and at constant prices Rp 3,447.7 trillion. Thus, economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the first quarter of 2025 (yoy) grew by 5.61 percent.
Household consumption remained the main driver of economic growth in the first quarter of 2026. Household consumption performance during this period was primarily driven by population mobility during national holidays and Religious Holidays (Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr).
In addition, various government policies in controlling inflation as well as various government stimuli to encourage consumption, such as transport ticket discounts, the provision of THB or 13th-month salary, and setting the BI rate at 4.75 percent, also contributed to boosting public consumption.
Furthermore, the number of domestic tourist trips grew by 13.14 percent (yoy) in the first quarter of 2026, followed by an increase in passengers in several modes of transportation such as land transport, ASDP, air transport, and sea transport.
“The rupiah is volatile but closed weaker in the range of Rp 17,420-Rp 17,460,” he said.
For information, market sentiment remains fragile after the renewed military exchanges that occurred on Monday, when US and Iranian forces launched new attacks in the Gulf as both sides sought to assert control over the strategic waterway.
