Rupiah Strengthens Slightly as Major Banks Set US Dollar Sell Rate at Rp 17,870
JAKARTA - The rupiah’s exchange rate against the US dollar strengthened in spot market trading on Monday (25 May 2026), prompting several national banks to set US dollar sell rates as high as Rp 17,870 per dollar.
According to Bloomberg data, at 10:15 WIB, the rupiah stood at Rp 17,716 per dollar, up 1 point or 0.01% from the previous close.
Doo Financial Futures currency analyst Lukman Leong forecast the rupiah to strengthen today in the range of Rp 17,600-17,750 per dollar.
Positive sentiment stems from hopes of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and lower global oil prices, triggered by US President Donald Trump’s statement that negotiations with Iran were constructive.
“Rupiah is expected to strengthen against the US dollar. Range Rp 17,600-17,750,” he told Kompas.com on Monday.
Domestic market sentiment also improved, with the domestic stock market closing in the green on Friday (22 May 2026).
However, pressure on the rupiah persists following Indonesia’s current account deficit of $4 billion in Q1 2026.
According to the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) midpoint rate, the rupiah stood at Rp 17,717 per dollar on Friday (22 May 2026), weaker than Thursday’s (21 May) Rp 17,673.
