Rupiah Strengthens Further, US Dollar Falls to Rp17,845
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Indonesian rupiah exchange rate strengthened further against the United States dollar during trading on Friday (12/6/2026). The Garuda currency is now approaching the Rp17,800/US$ level.
According to Refinitiv data, as of 14:06 Western Indonesia Time, the rupiah had strengthened by 0.72% to the level of Rp17,845/US$.
This gain was larger than the position at the opening of morning trade. At the start of trading, the rupiah opened sharply stronger by 0.42% at the level of Rp17,900/US$.
With this position, the rupiah is moving further away from the Rp18,000/US$ level, which had been a significant pressure point in recent days. The Garuda currency is now edging closer to the next psychological level at Rp17,800/US$.
The rupiah’s strengthening occurred amidst demonstrations in the capital city of Jakarta. The action was carried out by students from the University of Indonesia (UI) and was held in the Bundaran HI area. Despite this, the rupiah was still able to continue its appreciation, in line with the weakening of the US dollar in global markets.
At the same time, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the strength of the greenback against six major world currencies, was observed weakening by 0.08% to the level of 99.785.
This decline continued the correction from the previous trading session, when the DXY closed down 0.09%. Meanwhile, during Thursday’s trading (11/6/2026), the rupiah had closed down 0.14% at the position of Rp17,975/US$.
