Rupiah Strengthens, but Indonesian Banks Still Selling Dollars Above Rp17,000
Jakarta – The Indonesian rupiah opened stronger against the US dollar on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, reversing the previous trading session’s weakness. According to Refinitiv data, the rupiah opened in positive territory with an appreciation of 0.12% to the level of Rp16,965 per US dollar.
This gain reversed the previous day’s position, when the rupiah closed weaker at 0.30% depreciation at Rp16,985 per US dollar. Indonesian banks continued to offer US dollars at sell rates above Rp17,000. Some banks were observed selling at rates extending up to Rp17,265 per US dollar.
