Rupiah Strengthens at Close, US Dollar Now at Rp16,780
Jakarta - The value of the rupiah strengthened against the United States dollar on the close of trading today, Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
According to Refinitiv data, the rupiah closed at Rp16,780/USD, appreciating 0.21%. This strengthening represented a reversal after the rupiah had opened slightly weaker at 0.03% lower at Rp16,820/USD in morning trading.
Throughout the trading session, the rupiah moved volatilely within the range of Rp16,845-Rp16,780/USD.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY) at 15.00 WIB was in negative territory, declining 0.17% to 97.679.
The rupiah’s strengthening today was in line with weakness in the US dollar in global markets. The dollar corrected after President Trump provided no signals of a change in tariff policy direction in his State of the Union address.
At the same time, the US began implementing a temporary global tariff of 10% from Tuesday, with markets assessing there remains room for an increase to 15% following the US Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate Trump’s previous reciprocal tariffs.
From a monetary policy perspective, market participants were also monitoring comments from several US Federal Reserve officials who assessed that interest rates remain warranted at current levels amid an improving labour market, although inflation risks have not been entirely eliminated.
Nevertheless, markets continue to project the possibility of Federal Reserve rate cuts this year, so downward pressure on the dollar has not been entirely removed.
This dollar correction ultimately opened the door for emerging market currencies, including the rupiah, to close in positive territory in today’s trading.
