Rupiah Strengthens 1%, US Dollar Falls to Rp17,680

The rupiah’s strengthening against the United States dollar accelerated in early trading this week, Monday (15/6/2026).

According to Refinitiv data, as of 09:52 Western Indonesia Time, the rupiah had strengthened 1.04% to Rp17,680 per US dollar. This position allowed the Garuda currency to successfully breach the psychological level of Rp17,700 per US dollar. The rupiah also moved further away from the Rp18,000 per US dollar level, which had been a significant pressure point in recent times.

The strengthening was larger compared to the opening position earlier this morning. At the start of trading, the rupiah opened 0.64% stronger at Rp17,750 per US dollar.

Thus, the rupiah continued its positive performance after closing sharply stronger by 0.61% at Rp17,865 per US dollar in the last trading session of the previous week, Friday (12/6/2026).

The rupiah’s strengthening remains supported by the weakening of the US dollar in global markets. The US dollar index (DXY), which measures the greenback’s strength against six major world currencies, was observed weakening 0.18% to 99.569 as of 09:00 Western Indonesia Time.

The DXY’s decline came amid news that the United States and Iran had agreed on a peace deal framework. The news dampened demand for the US dollar as a safe-haven asset and opened room for other currencies, including the rupiah, to strengthen.
