The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market on Monday morning, 15 June 2026, was traded at Rp 17,776 per US dollar. This position strengthened by 84 points, or 0.47 percent, from the previous level of Rp 17,860 per US dollar.

Currency analyst at Doo Financial Futures, Lukman Leong, said the rupiah’s strengthening was triggered by hopes for peace in the Middle East between the United States and Iran.

‘The rupiah has the potential to strengthen further against the US dollar, amid rising hopes for peace in the Middle East triggering risk-on sentiment and a decline in global crude oil prices,’ Lukman said in a statement on Monday.

‘The US dollar index fell on reports that an interim peace deal between the US and Iran has been reached,’ he stated.

Citing Sputnik, the final agreement between Iran and the United States will be ratified through a United Nations Security Council resolution. As reported by the Iranian news agency Mehr, the news cited a draft memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.

Previously, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, confirmed that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US had been completed and was scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday, 19 June 2026.

Based on the draft, the US also committed not to interfere in Iran’s domestic affairs and to respect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Additionally, the draft stipulates that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will take place within 30 days after the memorandum of understanding is signed by both parties.

Based on these factors, the rupiah is expected to move in the range of Rp 17,750 to Rp 17,850 per US dollar.
