Amidst the increasing need for more efficient cross-border payments, Rupiah-based stablecoins are being viewed as an alternative infrastructure capable of providing remittance transactions with lower costs.

Furthermore, they offer faster settlement and better transparency compared to conventional payment channels, presenting significant potential to support millions of the Indonesian diaspora and Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMIs) in sending funds to their homeland more efficiently.

“Rupiah stablecoins can serve as an important foundation for delivering transaction efficiency while supporting the emergence of various Rupiah-based digital asset innovations to ensure the Rupiah remains relevant in the digital economy,” said Nathanael Christian, CEO of IDRX, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Previously, IDRX, an Indonesian-based stablecoin developer, participated in the MASA 2026 event organised by the Ministry of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia (EKRAF) at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Singapore.

IDRX introduced digital financial asset infrastructure based on Rupiah stablecoins that can support the transformation of Indonesia’s creative economy through two main avenues: cross-border remittances using Rupiah stablecoins and the tokenisation of Intellectual Property (IP).

Nathanael stated that crypto-asset innovations in the form of digital financial assets can create new economic value without neglecting regulatory compliance and consumer protection.

Creative works such as music, visual arts, design, and other forms of intellectual property have the potential to be transformed into digital financial assets that can be distributed transparently and in accordance with the applicable regulatory framework.

Through tokenisation, the economic rights to a work are represented as digital tokens, unlocking liquidity and new access to funding for creators without altering the underlying ownership of their work.

“Indonesia possesses immense potential in the creative economy. For this potential to flourish in the digital era, financial infrastructure is required that can bridge the creative world with the digital economy,” he added.

Meanwhile, Subani, President Director of PT Central Finansial X (CFX)—the institution overseeing crypto-asset trading in Indonesia—stated that innovations from industry players like IDRX and the vast potential of the creative economy sector require a secure foundation to gain global recognition.

“Therefore, this digital asset economy must be built upon a regulatory-compliant infrastructure,” he said.

Regarding this matter, Subani added that his institution is prepared to play a role in providing infrastructure that supports the innovation of the nation’s digital financial assets in a responsible and sustainable manner.
