Rupiah revaluation
Rupiah revaluation
From Media Indonesia
To welcome the newly-elected President, Vice President and the
new cabinet, I would like to suggest that the government through
the Ministry of Finance revalue the rupiah from Rp 1,000 to Rp 1,
so if one U.S. dollar is now equal to Rp 9,000, after the
revaluation one dollar would be equal to Rp 9, which I think is
quite proportional.
The revaluation of the rupiah would not affect the prices of
goods, and is meant not only to allow for easy, safe and
practical transactions (we wouldn't have to carry bundles of
money to settle a big deal), but also to enable us to dispense
with talking in millions when these millions do not mean very
much.
The highest denomination bank note would be only Rp 1,000,
which would be the equivalent of Rp 1,000,000 now.
The future generation would then become acquainted with the
term "cent" or, perhaps, "penny". Hopefully, the authorities will
respond positively to my suggestion.
