Rupiah Remains Weak in Morning Trading, IHSG Surges Ahead

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market came under pressure at the opening of trading on Wednesday (29/4/2026). The Garuda currency weakened by 0.16% to the level of Rp 17,270 per US dollar.

Meanwhile, at the close of trading on Tuesday (28/4/2026), the rupiah was at Rp 17,243 per US dollar.

Currency movements in the Asian region were observed to be varied this morning.

The Thai baht became the currency with the deepest weakening after falling 0.26%.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar weakened slightly by 0.006% against the US dollar.

On the other hand, the Singapore dollar became the currency with the largest strengthening in Asia after rising 0.06%.

This was followed by the Chinese yuan and Malaysian ringgit, which strengthened by 0.04% each, as well as the Japanese yen which rose slightly by 0.006%.

In contrast, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) opened stronger at the start of trading today.

Based on BEI data, the IHSG rose 0.29% or added 20.193 points to the position of 7,092.585.

At the opening, the index was temporarily in the area of 7,096.609, then moved fluctuatively within a limited range.

The IHSG was recorded reaching a daily high of 7,115.298 and a low of 7,087.792.

From the trading activity side, the transaction volume reached 9.405 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 2.428 trillion and a trading frequency of 361,126 times.
