Rupiah Opens Weaker, US Dollar Holds at Rp18,160
The rupiah exchange rate opened weaker against the US dollar in trading on Tuesday (9/6/2026), although pressure on the Garuda currency has begun to appear more limited compared to previous days.
According to Refinitiv data, the rupiah was at the level of Rp18,160/US$ at 09:07 WIB, weakening slightly by approximately 0.06% from the previous closing position of Rp18,170/US.Duringtheearlystagesoftrading, therupiahfluctuatedwithintherangeofRp18, 150 − 18, 160/US.
The rupiah’s weakness occurred amidst a relatively strong US dollar, which previously gained support from solid US economic data and increased demand for safe-haven assets due to global geopolitical uncertainty.
Nevertheless, the pressure on the rupiah this morning appeared not as significant as in previous sessions. This aligns with improving domestic sentiment following signals of strengthened fiscal and monetary coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia to maintain financial market stability.
On the other hand, the market continues to monitor global geopolitical developments, particularly the conflict in the Middle East, which remains a primary factor driving risk-off sentiment in global financial markets.
Meanwhile, the movement of the rupiah this morning occurred alongside a rebound in the domestic stock market, where the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) was recorded increasing by more than 1% at the start of trading, indicating a return of investor risk appetite towards domestic assets.
