Jakarta, Kompas.com - The rupiah exchange rate at the spot market opened under pressure during Friday (27 February 2026) trading. The Garuda currency depreciated 23 points or 0.14 per cent to the level of Rp 16,782 per US dollar.

Currency analyst Doo Financial Futures, Lukman Leong, stated that the rupiah’s movement in today’s trading is expected to remain flat with a slight weakening tendency against the US dollar.

The pressure emerged following the release of stronger-than-expected manufacturing and employment data from the United States, which drove a global strengthening of the dollar.

“The rupiah is expected to move flat with potential weakness against the US dollar, which has gained slightly following the stronger manufacturing and employment data,” said Lukman when contacted by Kompas.com.

Geopolitical uncertainty has added an additional layer of risk to global markets, particularly regarding the stability of the Middle East region and its implications for energy prices.

“Investors are still digesting the results of US-Iran negotiations which did not produce any agreement,” he explained.

In such situations, the US dollar tends to be favoured as a safe haven asset, whilst emerging market currencies, including the rupiah, move more defensively.

With the combination of these sentiments, the rupiah is expected to move within the range of Rp 16,700 to Rp 16,800 per US dollar.
