JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market continued to weaken at the start of trading on Thursday (9/4/2026). The rupiah opened at the level of Rp 17,030 per US dollar.

This position weakened by 0.11% compared to the previous day’s close at Rp 17,012 per US dollar. The rupiah’s movement is in line with the majority of currencies in the Asian region, which are also in the red zone.

The Philippine peso recorded the deepest weakening in Asia after falling 0.39%. Followed by the Malaysian ringgit, which depreciated 0.22%.

Next, the South Korean won weakened 0.21%, and the Japanese yen fell 0.16%. The Thai baht also corrected by 0.12%.

On the other hand, the Taiwan dollar and Singapore dollar each weakened 0.07%, followed by the Chinese yuan, which fell slightly by 0.04%.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar became the only currency in the region to strengthen, although it only rose slightly by 0.004% against the US dollar.

At the start of the session, the JCI opened at 7,238.462 and immediately came under pressure, touching a low of 7,191.586. However, the pressure did not last long as the index reversed direction and gradually strengthened, approaching its high of 7,277.679.

From the trading activity side, the transaction volume reached 14.10 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 7.60 trillion and a frequency of 1.11 million times.

The stock movements are still dominated by selling pressure, as reflected by 377 stocks that weakened. Meanwhile, 260 stocks strengthened and 168 stocks were stagnant.
