Rupiah Opens Under Pressure at Rp 17,141 per US Dollar, IHSG Moves into Positive Territory
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market weakened at the opening of trading on Tuesday (14/4/2026). The Garuda currency depreciated by 36 points or 0.21 per cent to the level of Rp 17,141 per US dollar.
Movements in Asian currencies were observed to be varied. The South Korean won corrected by 0.12 per cent, the Singapore dollar weakened by 0.05 per cent, and the Hong Kong dollar fell slightly by 0.03 per cent.
On the other hand, the Malaysian ringgit became the Asian currency with the largest strengthening after surging 0.52 per cent. This was followed by the Philippine peso which strengthened 0.48 per cent and the Taiwan dollar which rose 0.23 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan each appreciated by 0.15 per cent, while the Thai baht strengthened slightly by 0.05 per cent against the US dollar.
Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the IHSG jumped 127.37 points or 1.70 per cent to the level of 7,627.56. In the early trading session, the index moved steadily in positive territory after opening at 7,598.79 and briefly touching a high of 7,644.88.
From a liquidity perspective, transaction activity was quite solid with a trading volume of 11.83 billion shares and a transaction value of Rp 6.03 trillion. The trading frequency was recorded at 730,865 transactions.
The strengthening of the IHSG was also supported by the majority of stocks moving higher. It was recorded that 465 stocks strengthened, far higher compared to 138 stocks that weakened and 143 stocks that were stagnant.
Meanwhile, the BEI’s market capitalisation also increased and stood at the level of Rp 13,598.11 trillion.
