JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market strengthened at the start of trading on Thursday (26/3/2026). The rupiah was at the level of Rp 16,890 per US dollar, strengthening by 20 points or 0.12% compared to the previous close at Rp 16,911 per US dollar.

The rupiah’s strengthening occurred amid movements in the majority of Asian currencies that were in the red zone. The Malaysian ringgit weakened by 0.5%. This was followed by the South Korean won, which corrected by 0.24%, while the Thai baht and Philippine peso each fell by 0.16%.

Next, the Chinese yuan corrected by 0.04%, followed by the Singapore dollar which depreciated by 0.008%, and the Japanese yen which corrected by 0.006% against the US dollar.

On the other hand, the Taiwanese dollar became the currency with the largest strengthening in Asia after rising 0.24%. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar strengthened slightly by 0.02%.

At the start of trading, the IHSG opened stronger at 7,313.67, even touching the daily high of 7,323.70. However, strong selling pressure caused the index to reverse direction and fall to the lowest level of 7,257.85.

From the trading activity side, the transaction volume was recorded at 11.91 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 22.32 trillion and a trading frequency of 474,165 times.

There were 311 shares strengthening, 250 shares weakening, and 168 shares stagnant.
