JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market strengthened at the opening of trading on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The rupiah appreciated by 124 points or 0.72% to the level of Rp 16,981 per US dollar.
The majority of currencies in the Asian region opened stronger in Wednesday morning’s trading. The Japanese yen rose 0.78%, followed by the Thai baht at 1.38%, the Chinese yuan strengthened 0.45%, the Philippine peso increased 1.29%, and the South Korean won surged 1.59%.
Strengthening also occurred in the Singapore dollar, which rose 0.58%, and the Hong Kong dollar, which strengthened slightly by 0.03%.
“The rupiah is expected to strengthen against the US dollar following Donald Trump’s decision to postpone the attack on Iran for two weeks. This policy triggered a sharp decline in oil prices and encouraged a recovery in market sentiment,” said Lukman.
He predicted that the rupiah’s movement today would be in the range of Rp 16,950 to Rp 17,100 per US dollar.
Pressure on the rupiah exchange rate is assessed to impact the stock market, triggering a weakening of the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG). This condition also increases caution among market participants, especially retail investors.
However, the domestic market appeared bright this morning. In addition to the rupiah appreciating, the IHSG also opened stronger.
Based on BEI data, the IHSG was at the level of 7,163.919, up 192.891 points or equivalent to 2.77% compared to the previous close. Since the start of the session, the index has moved in the green zone, opening at 7,162.406.
