JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market rebounded at the start of trading on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The Garuda currency opened stronger by 0.08% to Rp 17,515 per US dollar. On the close of trading Tuesday (12/5/2026), the rupiah exchange rate faced considerable pressure, weakening to Rp 17,529 per US dollar. Meanwhile, currency movements in the Asian region were observed to be varied. The South Korean won became the currency with the deepest weakening in Asia after falling 0.17% against the US dollar. The Japanese yen also fell slightly in morning trading. On the other hand, the Thai baht became the currency with the largest strengthening in Asia after surging 0.22%. Then, the Malaysian ringgit strengthened 0.13% and the Chinese yuan rose 0.03% against the US dollar. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar was recorded to strengthen slightly by 0.004% against the greenback. On the other side, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) opened under pressure on Wednesday morning, after Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) surprised the market by removing several Indonesian stocks from its global index. Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the IHSG was recorded to weaken by 106.273 points or 1.55% to the level of 6,752.626. Selling pressure was seen to dominate the market from the start of trading. The IHSG opened at 6,763.945, briefly touching a high of 6,787.345, before finally dropping to a low of 6,741.600. Trading activity at the start was quite brisk with a transaction volume reaching 11.122 billion shares and a transaction value of Rp 3.349 trillion. The trading frequency was 326,991 transactions.
