Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rupiah exchange rate began trading this morning stagnant against the United States (US) dollar. The rupiah moved amid positive sentiment from global rating agency S&P Global Ratings, which maintained Indonesia’s credit rating and its outlook.

Referring to Refinitiv data, at the opening of trading on Tuesday (14/7/2026), the rupiah was at the level of Rp18,100/US$, relatively unchanged compared to the previous trading close.

In trading on Monday (13/7/2026), the rupiah moved sluggishly and closed down 0.30% at the level of Rp18,100/US$.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY), which measures the strength of the US dollar against six major world currencies, was observed moving steadily at the level of 101.241 as of 09.00 WIB.

The rupiah’s movement today received a boost after international rating agency S&P Global Ratings again maintained Indonesia’s sovereign debt rating at BBB with a stable outlook.

This decision confirms Indonesia’s position remains in the investment grade category amid persistently high global economic uncertainty.

In a report released on 13 July 2026, S&P assessed that the weakening of several of Indonesia’s fiscal and external indicators is currently temporary. These conditions have the potential to improve in line with the stable direction of government policy and more effective policy implementation.

In its report, S&P also projected the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar to be at the level of Rp17,700/US$ in 2026.

Responding to the decision, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the rating affirmation from S&P reflects the continued strong confidence of international investors and stakeholders in the Indonesian economy.

“S&P’s affirmation of Indonesia’s sovereign credit rating at BBB with a stable outlook reflects the maintained confidence of international stakeholders in Indonesia’s macroeconomic stability and solid economic growth prospects,” Perry said in an official statement, Tuesday (14/7/2026).

According to Perry, this positive assessment is inseparable from the close policy synergy between the government and Bank Indonesia in maintaining economic stability while encouraging growth amidst increasing global risks.

He emphasised that Bank Indonesia will continue to strengthen its mix of monetary, macroprudential, and payment system policies to maintain stability while supporting sustainable economic growth.
