Rupiah Opens at 17,003 per US Dollar This Morning
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in the spot market moved fluctuatively at the start of trading on Monday (6/4/2026). The rupiah opened at the level of Rp17,003 per US dollar, weakening slightly compared to the previous close on Thursday (2/4/2026) at Rp17,002 per US dollar.
That weakening was very limited, at around 0.006 percent. However, the pressure did not last long. The rupiah quickly reversed direction and strengthened again, breaking through below the psychological level of Rp17,000 per US dollar in the early trading session.
On the other hand, the movement of the majority of Asian currencies tended to be in the red zone. The Philippine peso recorded the deepest weakening in the region after correcting 0.52 percent against the US dollar.
In contrast, the Japanese yen recorded a slight strengthening of 0.006 percent against the US dollar.
Meanwhile, the South Korean won became the currency with the largest strengthening in Asia after gaining 0.15 percent, followed by the Thai baht which rose 0.05 percent and the Hong Kong dollar which strengthened slightly by 0.01 percent.
On another note, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) also opened weaker at the start of trading on Monday. The index corrected by 21.929 points or 0.31 percent to the level of 7,004.853.
Selling pressure was seen to dominate since the opening, as the index once touched the lowest position at 6,934.889.
From the trading activity side, the transaction volume reached 9.615 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp5.117 trillion and a trading frequency of 520,899 times. The market capitalisation was recorded at Rp12,232.487 trillion.
