Rupiah Nears Rp17,000 per U.S. Dollar

The rupiah exchange rate is showing an anomaly. While the U.S. dollar was weakening against several other currencies, it was strengthening against the rupiah. In trade on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, the rupiah weakened to nearly touch Rp 17,000 per U.S. dollar. According to detikFinance, drawing on Bloomberg data, the U.S. dollar rose 0.27% to level Rp 16,917. It was noted that the U.S. dollar closed at Rp 16,872 on Tuesday (3 March). Meanwhile, the dollar was seen weakening against most other foreign currencies. Against the euro (EUR), the dollar fell 0.12%. Against the Japanese yen (JPY), the dollar fell 0.15%. Against the Swiss franc (CHF), it fell 0.04%. The dollar also fell against the Australian dollar (AUD) by 0.28%. A similar fate befell the dollar against the pound sterling (GBP), which weakened 0.16%. Nevertheless, the dollar is recorded to strengthen against the Canadian dollar (CAD) by 0.04%.
