Rupiah melemah seiring pelaku pasar wait and see data tenaga kerja AS
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The rupiah opened in Jakarta on Friday weakening by 18 points or 0.11 percent to Rp16,923 per US dollar from the previous close of Rp16,905 per US dollar. Woori Saudara Bank analyst Rully Nova said the rupiah’s weakness was influenced by market players’ wait-and-see attitude ahead of US employment data. “Rupiah in today’s trading is expected to continue to weaken in the range of Rp16,880-Rp16,930, influenced by the wait-and-see data on US employment,” he told ANTARA in Jakarta, on Friday. Non-farm payroll (NFP) data is expected to rise by around 59,000, lower than the previous figure of 130,000. Other sentiment stems from the potential open conflict continuing with Iran. The war risk is said to affect oil prices and an increase that would subsequently tighten the government’s fiscal space, because for every one-dollar difference in the oil price there is an increase in subsidies of Rp10 trillion. “Domestically, Fitch’s downgrade of the rating outlook adds to market participants’ concerns. However, demand for government bonds rose, especially for short- to medium-term maturities, helping to limit further rupiah weakness,” said Rully.
